Steph's ramblings

ram-ble ... To speak or write at length, with many digressions... occasionally in a skirt... Erm, I may have made the last bit up!

Ooooops....

When will I ever learn that web design is not really what I'm cut out to do??? And what sort of explanation am I going to have to cobble together on Monday???

I'll explain...

Me & Tracy are getting married this summer, so I thought it would be rather cool to set up a small website. I could put all sorts of info onto a website, thus saving on all the stuff people cram into a wedding invite. So I started to build...

Now as luck would have it, the package I've got with my web hosting company ( u2-web.com ) offers the chance to host other domain names without any further cost. Great... So I purchased a suitable domain name, and continued to build...

One of the main things that I wanted to include on the website was an online RSVP form. So I spent about two weeks desperately trying to make one... I failed. I then noticed that Bravenet offered free web forms that could be easily modified. 'Hey cool... the guestbook on this website is by Bravenet... I already have an account with them.' So I built my online RSVP form, and added it to the website.

I then uploaded the new wedding site , told a few people to check it out and waited for the feedback...

I'm guessing that all the I.T. geeks out there will probably already know where this story is going... I didn't.

Lots of people have already checked out the new site, but only two have so far used the RSVP form; my sister, and close friends who we'll see tomorrow night... As soon as the info was submitted it was whisked into my email inbox as if by magic... 'Yay it works...' I then decided to test it out for myself, and moments later another email arrived... 'Yay it still works...' And then another email arrived. I'd forgotten about the automated 'thanks for filling the form in...' reply email I'd set up. I was also pretty horrified to notice that the automated reply email was sent from my Steph Angel email address that I'd registered with Bravenet years ago!!!

So now my sister & the friends who we'll see tomorrow have both received emails from Steph Angel, thanking them for filling out our RSVP form
...OH SHIT...Think I might have to dig myself out of quite a hole tomorrow!!!

I have now altered my Bravenet details!!!

Countdown to disaster...

From when I was a wee small child I've always been obsessed with all things spacey. I'd always opt for the Airfix Saturn V , rather than all the fighter planes that everyone else seemed to go for... And yes, I'd always build them far too quickly, and usually end up with a few unused bits at the end of it all. Thank heavens they don't build real spaceships like that... Mmmmmmm
I was fortunate enough to have spent some time at the Johnson Space Centre a good few years ago. I had a cousin who worked there, which enabled me to have a good close look at the Space Shuttles... And pretty impressive things they appeared. They put my poor Airfix Saturn V rocket to shame. But what I didn't know at the time was that my liitle rocket wasn't about to kill seven people, the mightily impressive machine in front of me was...
I can remember vividly watching the news footage of the Challenger accident, and last week's Countdown to Disaster documentary brought all those thoughts flooding back. Bizarrely, our 14 year old watched all the trailers for the programme, and then announced... "Did that really happen?"
I guess for me, the interesting part of the documentary was revealing how amazingly close it had come to not happen, and how if mega sums of money are involved, people's lives are seen as a gamble that's worth taking. Quite scary really...
I did actually progress to an Airfix Space Shuttle in later life... Mine came minus any O rings & rocket boosters...

Getting nowhere fast...

Still no news on the missing sculptures, although with the tiny snippets of information I've obtained, it kind of reeks of an in-house theft. Which has had me in this sort of mood for most of last week!!!

Oooooh they've got me annoyed...

Stolen...

Warning... I'm in a bit of a low down spot at the moment, which will probably make this post a bit depressing... Just thought I ought to warn you...

Ok, back in October I was asked if I wanted to exhibit some of my sculpture in an Arts Centre (Burton Brewhouse...) that I do (or did...) a bit of work at, I naturally leapt at the chance. So after I'd dusted down my precious little metal sculptures, printed off another batch of business cards, wrote a bit of arty blurb, I went along and set up the exhibition. I then sat back and waited for the compliments & praise to be heaped upon me...

Well, in a perverse kind of way, I got one of the biggest compliments I've probably ever had... I found out today that 6 of the 7 pieces had been stolen!!! Nobody seems to know how, when, or who by... But at this precise moment I can't really begin to describe how fucked off I feel. I've been told that an insurance claim will be made, but money has never been my incentive for making the artwork. I didn't even have the pieces up for sale, because I didn't want to sell them. I've now got to somehow put a value on them... And that will be hard...The sculptures were made as part of my Art degree, and probably took about a year to plan and make.

Ironically I've got a lot of potential exhibitions coming up this year, and things were looking very rosy indeed, but after today the thought of making new work is very far away.

I realise that this will probably mean very little to some people, which almost made me not blog about it... But bollocks, it's my blog, I'm fucked off, and I needed to write...

Architecture...

Went to do some work at an old school this week, only to find this...
I'd heard the school was having a re-fit ... But this wasn't the sort of re-fit I'd expected. I was completely stunned... Surely this sort of thing shouldn't be allowed??? After a few minutes of staring open mouthed in the middle of the road, someone directed my to this...
All the teachers were thrilled with their nice shiny new school... I thought it was a cold, clinical, featureless piece of shite!!!

Why oh why does this happen???

Feed me...

Just a quickie... As part of my on-going Blogger problems, I've had to re-jig my RSS Feed... So if anyone is actually reading this (I'm guessing all your feeds to this site have been a bit stagnant lately...) you may have to re-subscribe to the feed...

I HATE BLOGGER ... (this probably won't help in getting my problems resolved...)
